La Bota 96 de Amontillado Jerez “Magnum”

Saca of November, 2019
D.O. Jerez – Xérès – Sherry
18% alc. – 1500ml
Jerez de la Frontera
Production: 600 magnums

Like the previous magnum La Bota de Amontillado No.69, this is a wine withdrawn from a single tonel containing a natural amontillado that happens to be not too old, around 16-18 years. This La Bota de Amontillado 96 Jerez “Mágnum” is therefore sort of a descendant to its predecessor, but it is different in a very relevant way: this time it is not a Sanlúcar wine, but a Jerez wine. This provides an excellent chance to practice the always enthralling game of comparing wines, which can be played together with the magnum No.69, but also with La Bota de Amontillado 95 “Sanlúcar”, a moderately older wine than this No.96.

This is a delicious and markedly characterful wine, of which only a little more than six hundred units are available, all of them in 1500ml bottles.
It is best enjoyed in a sufficiently large white wine glass towards 13/14ºC—so it should be served slightly below that to allow for aeration. An excellent aperitif on its own, it also works beautifully with some dishes, such as seafood with an intense iodised taste (oysters, red shrimps, barnacles, anemones…) or spicy asian food.
